DUI charge follows crash in Caltrans construction zone

A driver who reportedly tried to run away from an accident on a recent Thursday morning was arrested and placed behind bars. The report issued by the California Highway Patrol says they suspect the man of driving under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred at a construction zone on an Interstate 5 onramp in San Diego, and the driver is now facing a DUI charge

An officer alleges the driver entered the freeway from La Jolla Parkway at a high rate of speed at approximately 1 a.m. He says the man traveled through the flares and cones that cordoned off the construction area. He allegedly crashed into the rear of a Caltrans truck before his car spun down the onramp and came to a halt.

Further allegations indicate that the driver exited his vehicle and proceeded to run toward Interstate 5, but officers managed to apprehend him before he made it onto the freeway. Neither the alleged drunk driver nor the Caltrans employee who was in the pickup truck at the time of the rear-end crash suffered injuries that needed hospitalization. Paramedics provided the necessary treatment at the scene.

The accused driver's level of intoxication is unknown along with information about the method used to determine his blood alcohol percentage. This man's focus will surely be on protecting his legal rights and achieving the best possible outcome regarding the DUI charge. A conviction on a charge of driving under the influence in California can adversely affect this man's life, and having a seasoned DUI defense lawyer on his side may lead to the best possible outcome.
