DUI charge: Alleged drunk driver pleads not guilty to murder

A California Lyft driver was killed in a car accident in San Diego in the early morning hours of a recent Saturday. The driver accused of causing this fatality will likely be focusing on the defense of the DUI charge he is now facing. The fatal crash reportedly occurred on state Route 94, and authorities say it led to the fifth DUI-related murder charge in San Diego County within as many weeks.

An accident report indicates that the 41-year-old Lyft driver who was eastbound on the highway had pulled onto the road shoulder when a woman who was one of his three passengers experienced nausea. During this time a 24-year-old driver of another vehicle smashed into the stationary car. The driver was killed on impact, and the three passengers were injured. One of them reportedly suffered serious injuries.

After smashing into the rear of the car, the driver and passenger of the other vehicle allegedly fled on foot, and they were apprehended not far from the accident scene. Authorities claim the driver was intoxicated, and he was arrested. The accused driver reportedly pleaded not guilty to a murder charge at a court appearance on the following Wednesday. Other charges included DUI causing injury, driving with a blood alcohol limit that exceeds the .08 percent legal limit and also driving without a valid license.

The judge noted that this driver was also charged with drunk driving in November last year. This, and the fact that he left the accident scene, led to the man who is facing the DUI charge to remain behind bars in lieu of bail of $3 million. Defending such charges will be complicated, and the support and guidance of an experienced criminal defense attorney will be vital. With the skills of a seasoned lawyer in his corner, the best possible outcome might be achieved for this California driver.
