Officials suspect the 22-year-old driver from Rancho Penasquitos to have, once again, been impaired when he allegedly caused this accident.

Wrong way driver faces DUI charge after head-on crash

The California Highway Patrol reported that a sheriff's deputy responded after receiving an alert about a wrong-way driver in North Hollywood shortly after 3 p.m. on a recent Tuesday. What followed landed one person behind bars on a DUI charge. The deputy located the suspect approaching in his lane. After avoiding contact with that car, he made a U-turn and followed the wrong-way driver. However, he could not pull the driver over before a collision with another vehicle occurred.

The driver accused of causing this fatality will likely be focusing on the defense of the DUI charge he is now facing. The fatal crash reportedly occurred on state Route 94, and authorities say it led to the fifth DUI-related murder charge in San Diego County within as many weeks.

Woman accused of driving under the influence near casino
