Driver defending a DWI charge after release from the hospital

A California man from Patterson was recently taken into custody upon his release from the hospital. He was admitted to an East Palo Alto hospital several weeks ago after a fatal crash on Aug. 9. He will now have to focus on defending a DWI charge that followed the deaths of two people in that accident.

The California Highway Patrol allege the 36-year-old man was intoxicated when he disregarded a stop sign on a local Patterson roadway. Apparently, the road that intersected with the one on which the alleged drunk driver was traveling has no stop sign. He smashed into a car on that road. Both the driver, a 40-year-old Patterson woman, and her 31-year-old passenger were killed in the collision. Their deaths were pronounced at the accident scene.

The driver who allegedly caused the fatalities suffered serious injuries, and he was rushed to a hospital. He is now facing two counts each of murder along with gross vehicular manslaughter, drunk driving and driving without a driver's license. The accused man was held in custody in the Stanislaus County jail without bail while awaiting his scheduled arraignment.

This man will likely recognize the gravity of the charges against him. Obtaining the services of an experienced California criminal defense attorney who is skilled in defending a DWI charge will likely be the most appropriate step to take. After examining the individual charges and the procedures used to determine the driver's level of intoxication, a lawyer can establish a defense strategy to achieve an outcome that is best under the particular circumstances.
