DUI charge follows crash into parked cars and Harley Davidson

The owners of four cars and one Harley Davidson each got a nasty surprise when they discovered a pickup truck driver had smashed into their parked vehicles. The 29-year-old California driver who was allegedly responsible for the damage is now facing a DUI charge. No injuries were reported in this incident.

A report by the Petaluma Police Department indicated that the accident took place on a recent Friday evening. When officers arrived at the scene, the driver was not present; but, after smashing into the four cars, his pickup truck came to a halt on top of the motorcycle. Witnesses reportedly directed officers to a residence into which they saw the truck driver run.

The driver was located, and it was determined that the homeowner and the driver did not know each other before the driver sought refuge in the house. Officers performed field sobriety tests and a Breathalyzer test because of the strong alcohol odor on the driver. His blood alcohol percentage was reportedly measured at .138 percent. The legal limit in California is .08 percent.

The man was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County Jail on a DUI charge along with an additional charge for not being licensed to drive in California. Getting a DUI defense attorney on his side may be the most logical step for the accused pickup truck driver to take. The attorney will examine the evidence against the client and the methods used to determine his level of intoxication. The burden of proof will be on the prosecution -- including proof that the accused man was actually driving the vehicle.
