DUI charge filed against father who left child in car

A California father stands accused of endangering the lives of his children. Many children have lost their lives after being left in hot closed cars. Law enforcement is strict about this, and if the adult who left a child in a car is suspected of being drunk, the consequences may be more severe.  A Los Angeles man was recently arrested and charged with child endangerment; a formal DUI charge also appears to be forthcoming.

According to an incident report, a 911 call was received from a woman who reported finding a toddler in a car with windows rolled up. She said that she had removed the 2-year-old sweating girl from the hot car. Police responded to the scene and arranged for paramedics to examine the child. It was determined that, although she had not suffered adverse health effects, she would have been in danger had she not been rescued.

Within 15 minutes, the father came back with his 10-year-old daughter whom he had collected from school. Police allege that his face was flushed, his eyes were bloodshot and that he smelled of alcohol. His car was searched, and a six-pack of beer -- minus one bottle -- was allegedly discovered. Further allegations say he failed a field sobriety test, and a breath test indicated he had a blood-alcohol level of three times the legal limit. He was arrested and released after he posted a $100,000 bond.

In the time leading up to his arraignment, this man will likely retain the services of an experienced California criminal defense attorney to advocate on his behalf when defending the endangerment accusation and the probable DUI charge. The details of the charges will be examined, and the methods used to determine the accused man's level of intoxication will be scrutinized. Any violations of the man's rights during these procedures can be addressed during the court proceedings.
