DUI charge follows death of 14-year-old SUV passenger

A 19-year-old California man is being accused of causing a single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a 14-year-old girl and caused injuries to four others. He is suspected of driving under the influence, and he is now facing a felony DUI charge, along with a charge of vehicular manslaughter. Reportedly, the tragic accident occurred on a recent Tuesday morning in the vicinity of the Whittier campus.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but it is suspected that speed may have caused the driver to lose control of the SUV carrying five students of La Serna High School. A witness reported seeing the out-of-control, speeding SUV strike a sidewalk and then smash into a mailbox. One occupant was ejected, and two of the occupants were reported to be unconscious immediately after impact.

Apart from the deceased girl, five other individuals suffered injuries -- one of them was the driver. A detailed report was not available, but it was suggested that two of the victims were in critical condition upon admittance to the hospital. The driver was arrested after his release from the hospital.

Defending a DUI charge is a serious matter, and this young California man will likely seek the support of an experienced criminal defense attorney to help him navigate the legal processes that will follow his arrest. Along with protecting his rights throughout the proceedings, a lawyer will examine the details of the charges and the evidence held by the prosecution. Based on this evidence, an attorney will advocate on behalf of the client in a quest to achieve the most favorable outcome.
