Murder charges follow allegations of driving under the influence

Unfortunate split second decisions may have devastating consequences. Such may be the case for a woman who is accused of causing the death of two people in a March 26 crash. She is now facing several charges related to causing fatalities while driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to a California Highway Patrol report, a 10-year-old girl, her father and her grandmother were traveling through Tulare on their way back from a Yosemite National Park visit over Easter. The accused woman allegedly disregarded a stop sign and smashed into the car carrying the child and her family. The grandmother and the girl lost their lives in this accident, and the girl's father suffered critical injuries.

Subsequently, the office of the Tulane County District Attorney sought a warrant for the arrest of the driver who allegedly ran the stop sign. She was arrested at her home on April 8 on charges of second-degree murder -- two counts -- and two felony charges for causing injury while driving under the influence of alcohol. She was booked into a detention center in Tulare County, and bail was denied.

To ensure that her legal rights are protected throughout the proceedings, this California driver may benefit from the support of an experienced DUI defense attorney. While advocating for her during any interviews or negotiations, an attorney will also examine the procedures followed in the execution of tests to determine the driver's blood-alcohol level that gave rise to charges of driving under the influence. A conviction can have a shattering impact on any person's life, and a lawyer will work to achieve the best possible outcome.
