DUI charge follows pickup truck crashing into minivan

Following an auto accident in which a car struck a minivan on Highway 18, a 30-year-old Blue Jay resident was arrested. He is now facing a DUI charge that was filed after he received medical treatment for injuries he suffered in the crash. Reportedly, there were nine occupants in the minivan, all of whom survived the crash.

According to an accident report prepared by the California Highway Patrol, the alleged DUI driver was southbound in a pickup truck when the left side of the vehicle struck some of the pylons that were installed on the center median. It is believed that he instinctively swerved to the right but overcorrected and swung back to the left again. This apparently caused him to lose control, and the pickup truck traveled through the pylons and into the northbound lanes.

As the pickup spun into the opposite lanes, it crashed into the minivan, operated by a 48-year-old Gardena man. The occupants of the minivan reportedly complained of pains and bruises but none of them were transported to the hospital. The truck driver was taken to the hospital for treatment of a facial injury. Upon his release ,he was arrested on a felony drunk driving charge and a charge for driving with a blood-alcohol level equal to or exceeding the legal limit of .08 percent.

Following his arrest, this California man will likely rely upon the services of an experienced criminal defense attorney to guide him through the legal proceedings concerning this DUI charge. The lawyer will assess the circumstances that led to the arrest, including the procedures followed by law enforcement personnel. With the guidance of his legal counsel, the accused man has the right to challenge the evidence presented by the prosecution. Unless  guilt is proved beyond a reasonable doubt, he cannot be convicted.
