DUI charge follows death of 2 golf cart occupants

California drivers who choose to operate their vehicles after consuming alcohol may have to face the consequences. A 32-year-old Palm Desert resident is facing a DUI charge after allegedly causing a recent fatal vehicle accident. Authorities allege the driver was impaired by alcohol or drugs when she traveled at a rate of speed that was about twice the limit.

The California Highway Patrol reported that the crash occurred at an intersection in Indio on a recent Wednesday afternoon. Reportedly, the accused woman was traveling at a speed exceeding 50 mph on a road with a 25 mph speed limit. She came upon a golf cart carrying two people and their two dogs. Instead of passing the golf cart, she apparently smashed into the rear of it.

The impact caused the ejection of the golf cart's occupants, and both individuals and their dogs died at the accident scene. The driver of the car is now facing charges of second-degree murder along with causing bodily injury while driving under the influence. No details about the victims were made available except the fact that the driver of the golf cart was a 76-year-old man.

If this California driver is convicted of the charges against her, she will likely face severe consequences. Retaining the services of an experienced DUI defense attorney may be the appropriate first step to take. A lawyer can examine the DUI charge and the available evidence. After evaluating the case, the lawyer can devise a defense strategy to serve the best interests of the client.
