Driver accused of speeding, driving under the influence

California drivers who face drunk driving charges are likely aware that DUI-related incidents are taken seriously by authorities. Prosecutors will do what they can to secure a conviction, but this cannot happen until and unless guilt beyond a reasonable doubt is established. However, taking into account the negative impact a charge of driving under the influence and possible conviction can have on the life of a young person, an accused driver will want to create a formidable DUI defense and take every reasonable step to avoid a conviction.

A 23-year-old man from Redwood City was taken into custody by a deputy who suspected him of driving while intoxicated. According to the sheriff's office, the deputy was parked at an intersection in San Carlos in the early morning hours of a recent Sunday. When a speeding southbound vehicle was spotted, the deputy gave chase and tried to pull the driver over as the man attempted to turn onto a westbound street. The driver apparently failed to maintain control of his car and smashed into two parked vehicles.

The deputy reported that he became suspicious of the driver's impairment in the time leading up to the collision. The driver reportedly suffered facial lacerations and complained of chest pain. He was taken to a hospital, where he received treatment for his injuries before he was arrested and cited for suspected drunk driving.

When a California driver is suspected of driving under the influence, the most appropriate first step is to retain the services of an California DUI defense attorney. While protecting the rights of the client, a lawyer can examine the circumstances and prepare for any DUI charges that may follow after blood test results become available. With the guidance of experienced counsel, a defense strategy that will best suit the circumstances can be used to achieve the best possible outcome.
