Sailor seized on naval base may face DUI charge after hit-and-run

A sailor may be facing several charges in California after allegedly fleeing the scene of an accident involving injuries. San Diego police reported that the sailor was driving an SUV in the early morning hours of a recent Thursday when he allegedly rear-ended another vehicle. The impact was intense enough to cause the other car to roll over. He will likely face a DUI charge, among other charges.

It is alleged that the man left his damaged SUV at the scene and fled on foot, without checking on the injured driver of the other vehicle. An officer said the road was closed, and a search was launched in the area to locate the missing driver. In the meantime, the sailor had made his way to the nearby naval base. Medics noticed his head injury and took him to the hospital.

The man was taken into custody on the naval base by the military police a few hours later. The city police subsequently detained him. The sailor was booked into jail on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run causing injuries.

California drivers who are arrested on suspicion of drunk driving are entitled to the protection of the law. They have the right to legal counsel. When facing a DUI charge, it may be wise to retain the services of an experienced criminal defense attorney before answering questions asked by the police. An attorney will evaluate any plea deals offered by the prosecutor, if any, and work to protect the best interests of the accused individual.
