Prescription drugs lead to driver's arrest on DUI charge

Drivers in California who are accused of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs may find that there is a lot at stake. Depending on the outcome of a court case following a DUI charge, an accused individual may face many consequences, which can include jail time. Regardless of the other penalties leveled, driving privileges will likely be suspended. For this reason, accused individuals may want to ensure that their rights are protected.

San Jacinto deputies recently received a report from a man who claimed that he followed a hit-and-run driver to a home after witnessing an accident. He alleged that a driver of a motor home fled the scene of an accident after he was involved in a collision with a bus. Deputies proceeded to the given address and found the alleged hit-and-run driver.

The deputies determined that the 55-year-old man showed signs of being affected by prescription drugs and took him to a hospital. Upon release from the hospital, the driver was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident and on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs. It was also found that he was operating the motor home without a driver's license.

Fortunately, there were reportedly no passengers on the bus at the time of the collision, and the bus driver was uninjured. A California driver who faces a DUI charge may want to retain the services of an experienced DUI defense attorney. With professional assistance, an accused driver may be able to negotiate a plea deal, which could result in reduced charges and/or penalties.
