California man facing DUI charge after alleged wrong-way driving

One night of socializing and then driving a vehicle while intoxicated could have detrimental ramifications. Facing a DUI charge in California can be extremely costly to an individual’s wallet, along with his or her driving privileges. In addition, it could lead to serious jail time, especially when an accident with fatalities or severe injuries occurs.

California Highway Patrol responded to a fatal accident in the early morning hours on a recent Saturday. Their response followed a call reporting a driver who was heading east in the lanes of the westbound traffic on the 210 Freeway. According to the police accident report, a 19-year-old driver and his 16-year-old girlfriend were westbound on the freeway when they noticed the approaching wrong-way driver. His attempts to evade the imminent collision failed, and the resulting crash claimed the life of the young driver. He was declared dead at the accident scene, and his passenger was transported to the hospital where she received treatment for injuries reported not to be critical.

The alleged wrong-way driver escaped the accident scene on foot but was apparently apprehended at his place of residence shortly after the accident. After medical treatment for reported minor injuries, he was charged with suspected DUI along with hit-and-run. The media report mentioned that the police are looking for a second person who may have played a role in the accident.

California residents who are facing a DUI charge may benefit from obtaining counsel without delay. While an individual remains innocent until proved guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, every individual may have his or her interests protected, and it is important to understand each individual charge. Accused drivers will be afforded the opportunity to defend the charges brought against them, and with professional guidance, the effects of the charges may be minimized.
