DUI charge may follow crash into Bank of America building

California residents may be aware of the adverse effects drunk driving charges could have on an individual’s life. In addition to suspended driving privileges, facing a DUI charge could be detrimental to a person’s career and other aspects of his or her life. A woman, whose name was initially withheld, was recently admitted to a San Francisco hospital in critical condition after a suspected DUI accident.

A police report stated that the woman allegedly traveled at a high rate of speed when she narrowly missed smashing into a municipal bus. She reportedly hit a curb before crashing into the front of a branch of the Bank of America. The accident did not occur during business hours. Only the driver of the vehicle was injured, and reports classified her injuries as life-threatening.

It was reported that the bank was the only damaged building, and the damages appeared to be of superficial nature only. The road was closed for a short period after the accident, affecting the bus service for a while. Other than stating that the consumption of alcohol appears to have contributed to the accident, the report made no mention of charges filed. Police would commonly wait until a suspect’s release from the hospital before filing charges, if there are any charges to be filed.

It is not yet clear whether the driver in this case will be criminally charged. If she is charged, it may not occur until she is released from the hospital. If she ultimately faces a California DUI charge, she will want to ensure the protection of their interests. Obtaining the services of legal counsel may provide the defendant with valuable advice and guidance in challenging the evidence offered by the prosecutors. While any accused person remains innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, utilizing the available help may minimize the potential impact of the charge.
