California man facing charges for driving under the influence

Most California residents and specifically drivers are aware of not only the dangers but the potential repercussions of driving under the influence. However, accidents still occur as a result of driving under the influence and sometimes they are serious. When such an accident occurs, it is important to make sure that all facts are brought to the surface. A recent accident has left a California man charged with driving under the influence.

The accident occurred as the result of an individual driving the wrong way. The early morning crash occurred after police had attempted to stop the driver. A chase began and, according to reports, the driver reached speeds of 100 miles per hour. Police say they had attempted to stop the vehicle because it had been weaving in and out and speeding.

During the chase, the driver traveled through several construction zones. Authorities were able to notify those workers in time for them avoid the dangerous situation. However, as the pursuit continued, the driver made a U-turn which put him in the wrong lane of travel and he then hit an SUV head-on. Several were injured in the crash, including the alleged drunken driver who was said to be in serious condition. Three individuals in the SUV, also in serious condition, were taken to a nearby medical facility.

The driver has been arrested and will be facing multiple charges upon his recovery. In addition to charges for driving under the influence, he will also face charges for evading police and causing injury. With charges this serious in nature, the alleged drunken driver could benefit from understanding his rights under California state law. Having a thorough knowledge of one's rights could be beneficial when determining the best way to move forward with a defense.
