Man facing charges for allegedly driving under the influence

Driving under the influence is not only dangerous but can come with serious consequences for the driver. Unfortunately for other drivers on the road, the repercussions can be deadly. California residents may have read about a recent accident in which an individual was killed as the result of an individual allegedly driving under the influence.

The accident occurred early in the morning. A 26-year-old man hit a vehicle killing one and causing minor injuries to two other individuals. The woman who was killed was pregnant and reports indicate that her fetus also died as a result of the collision. It was unknown if the other two individuals needed or received medical treatment at the time.

The man was arrested at the scene and is facing at least two charges as a result of his purported actions. His bail was set at $95,000. The man's final charges could be dependent upon the ongoing investigation. He could potentially be facing a second-degree murder charge -- which carries a sentence of 15 years to life in California in the event of a conviction.

While waiting for his day in court, it may be in his best interest to gather as much pertinent information as possible. It was not mentioned if there were any field sobriety tests performed or other testing of any kind to determine his blood-alcohol content. This could be important when moving forward with his defense. It is important to note the man is facing charges that are based on the suspicion of driving under the influence. In cases like this, if further investigation proves that an accused individual was not under the influence, then criminal charges can potentially be dropped.
