California man facing charges for driving under the influence

The holiday season can be a time when police step up patrol on the roads. They are also on high alert to watch for motorists who are driving under the influence. A recent incident in California has resulted in an arrest and now has a man facing charges of driving under the influence.

The initial call to police was for an accident that had blocked the road and, as a result, left traffic at a standstill. After authorities were able to clear the roadway enough for traffic to move again, one vehicle did not move. As officers made their way to the vehicle, they observed two occupants sleeping. According to reports, officers were able to wake the occupants and instructed them to pull over on the shoulder of the roadway. It was stated that there was a concrete barrier on the side of the road that the driver nearly hit before coming to a stop.

Field sobriety tests were performed on the driver of the vehicle. The 25-year-old male did not pass those tests and was arrested at that time on suspicion of driving under the influence. It was also noted that he was driving on a suspended license, which had been suspended for a prior DUI arrest. While DUI charges are certainly taken seriously in court, it can be important to make sure all facts are presented in this case. Although the driver failed sobriety tests, it was not noted if a Breathalyzer or blood tests were performed.

California residents facing similar charges for driving under the influence may want to research the applicable laws specifically appropriate to their situation. Since each situation is handled on a case-by-case basis, it can be important for an individual to know what they could be expecting. Even if a person is found guilty, a plea deal or other options could be available. With the proper knowledge, a person can be confident that the best possible outcome can be achieved.
