Bobby Brown guilty of driving under the influence in California

Bobby Brown is a name that is well known to readers in California. Most famous for his sometimes-rocky marriage to deceased singer Whitney Houston, Brown starred in several television shows and had a music career of his own. Now, he is in the headlines for his conviction in a case of driving under the influence.

According to a recent report, Bobby Brown was arrested in February for a driving under the influence offense. This was said to be his second such drunk driving related arrest in less than a year. As was the case for this most recent arrest, in the previous case he pleaded no contest to the criminal accusations.

The most recent driving under the influence matter led to the singer to turn himself in to authorities under the terms of his sentence. He had been sentenced to a 55-day jail term, four years of informal probation. H e also must complete an 18-month-long alcohol treatment program. Clearly, the court was being proactive in both sentencing the man for his acknowledged wrongdoing as well as in addressing an apparent underlying problem with alcohol.

As is the case for those facing similar driving under the influence related accusations in California, Brown had the opportunity to present a defense against the criminal charges. Moreover, he had the right to seek a plea arrangement with prosecutors to limit his criminal exposure. Each case is different, though the right to present a defense is always important. By focusing on the specifics of the allegations in conjunction with all of the relevant facts and circumstances, there is often hope that a favorable result can be achieved.
