California Highway Patrol announces DUI charges in crash

The California Highway Patrol is investigating a head-on collision in Victorville that injured one driver, killed his female passenger, and injured another driver. It has been reported that one driver is already facing charges of causing major injury and death, as well as DUI charges. Other charges may be filed as the investigation continues.

The 33-year-old driver that has been charged in this accident was allegedly driving down Interstate 15 on the wrong side of the highway at a high rate of speed at the time of the accident. The California Highway Patrol says that when they arrived at the scene, they used Tasers in order to subdue the driver. Officers suspected the driver of drug intoxication at the time of the accident and are awaiting toxicology results.

The driver sustained injuries that include a broken leg. His female passenger, who was properly restrained at the time of the accident, was not as lucky and died as result of the injuries she sustained. The driver of the other vehicle was also injured. The current condition of both drivers is not known.

The DUI charges carry serious penalties if a conviction is ultimately gained in a California courtroom. However, should additional, more serious charges be filed against him, the penalties a conviction would bring will only increase. Due to the potentially severe consequences, the driver can only benefit by gaining a full understanding of the legal complexities surrounding the criminal case. He has the same right as any other individual accused of a crime in our state to challenge the substance and admissibility of any evidence offered against him and to fight for the best possible result.
