Bobby Brown facing DUI charges in California for a second time

California is strict about suspected DUI and those who become the target of such suspicion may want to ensure that they have a solid defense in place early on. As most of our readers know, celebrities often are the target of media attention for everything from clothing choices to traffic tickets. One recent story reports that Bobby Brown was recently been arrested on DUI charges for the second time this year, this time for suspicion of drunk driving.

Reports indicate that the 43-year-old Brown became the subject of a traffic stop recently in the early morning hours near Topanga. It is not clear what caused police to initiate the stop or what factors led them to believe that Brown was under the influence. According to police, Brown was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence, but was not held in jail. There was no report of any field sobriety tests or blood alcohol testing concerning the incident.

This arrest is the second for Brown following one in March, also for DUI. In that case, Brown pleaded no contest. As part of the plea agreement which he was able to reach, Brown subsequently checked into rehab.

When anyone in California becomes the subject of DUI charges, they are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. Like Brown, anyone charged with a DUI in California also has the right to defend themselves against the allegations. This defense may include a thorough examination of all available evidence, as well as the actions of police surrounding the traffic stop. In some cases, like Brown's in March, the punishments for DUI can be lessened through plea agreements and other alternatives to the usually strict sanctions.
