Alameda County man accused of driving under the influence

An Alameda County man was arrested recently following an accident in which, according to law enforcement authorities, he crashed a car into a power pole. The Hayward man reportedly was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence following the collision with the power pole. The accident occurred near the border between San Leandro and San Lorenzo at the intersection of Grant Avenue and Via Alamitos. An investigation is ongoing.

California Highway Patrol believes that the man was speeding on Washington Avenue in a southerly direction when he failed to complete a right hand turn onto Grant Avenue. The purported unsafe turn caused his vehicle to leave the roadway and strike a power pole. Authorities say that the man fled the scene following the accident and was later detained by Alameda County Sheriff's Deputies.

According to CHP, an investigation was conducted to establish whether the man was driving under the influence. He was then arrested. Reports did not elaborate on the nature of the investigation, nor do they clarify the extent and nature of any tests that were conducted. In addition to the suspicion of driving under the influence, the man also faces charges of hit-and-run and driving with his license suspended. He was taken for observation to Valley Care Medical Center in Pleasanton but was released into custody at the Santa Rita Jail.

When anyone in California is accused of committing a crime, they are presumed innocent unless and until they are proved otherwise. This individual has every right to stand up and defend himself against the accusations. In planning his defense, he may choose to investigate all aspects of his case, including the investigation for driving under the influence and the police procedures followed during his arrest. By understanding all elements of the case and adequately preparing, many of those accused may find that the outcome of their case is not as bleak as they may initially believe.
