Driving under the influence: Amanda Bynes faces criminal charges

Former child star Amanda Bynes is back in the media following her recent driving woes. The recent reports indicate that, at the beginning of September, Bynes' California driver's license was suspended. Though she has always maintained her innocence against the allegations against her, the former actress is faces two hit-and-run charges, as well as one driving under the influence charge.

The two hit-and-run charges stem from two accidents, one in April and the other in August, in which Bynes allegedly did not provide the proper paperwork after the accident. The DUI charge stems from an accident where Bynes allegedly hit the side of a sheriff's department patrol car. Taking to Twitter, Bynes is said to have denied drinking and driving, as well as the hit-and-run allegations.

Bynes was scheduled to appear in court on more than one occasion in late September as she works to defend herself against the charges. For the DUI charge, a pre-trial hearing was set. For the hit-and-run charges, she was expected to be arraigned on Sept. 27. No further details have been provided concerning the specific reasons for the suspension of her license or the length of time involved.

Anyone in California who is charged with a crime has rights and options to help them as they navigate the defense process. In cases where driving under the influence is charged, drivers may benefit from a strong defense that challenges relevant aspects of the case while ensuring that all important legal rights are protected. Though sometimes challenging for drivers, defending against DUI and other charges can be successful with the right help.
