Truck driver faces DWI charges after California accident

A truck driver is facing criminal charges for his alleged role in a two vehicle accident. According to California police, the DWI charges stem from an accident that occurred in the morning hours. At that time, an 18-wheeler operated by a 50-year-old man lost control and traveled up an embankment. Police have alleged that the man was unable to control his truck due to intoxication.

After the truck traveled up the bank, it proceeded to roll back down the hill and landed on another truck. The impact caused the other truck to sustain substantial damage. The man driving the other truck was not hurt in the collision.

Meanwhile, the first truck driver was taken to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries. He was subsequently released from the hospital and transported to a local jail. Police have not released any further information that supports their assertion that the man was intoxicated. A court date for the man has also not been released.

The information released thus far appears to only support the fact that an accident occurred. Before the man can be convicted of DWI charges in California, a prosecutor will be required to provide enough evidence to prove each element of the criminal offenses that the defendant is alleged to have committed. A lot more proof will be necessary in this particular case, and the accused man has every right to contest the allegations and confront the witnesses offering testimony against him. Unless and until a prosecutor is able to prove the DWI charges in court by a substantial measure of proof, the man in presumed innocent of each and every criminal allegation lodged against him.
